• At Taft, we are driven by a love of history, craftsmanship, and the landscapes that give each project its character.

  • We believe in understanding a building’s history before shaping its future.

  • Through thoughtful detailing, considered materials and skillful design, we aim to build on the past, creating architecture that feels both authentic and enduring.

Our approach

At Taft, we specialise in the refurbishment and conservation of historic buildings, complemented by a portfolio of bespoke new-build projects. With deep technical expertise and a collaborative, practical approach, we’re passionate about revitalising heritage assets – extending their life and future use while minimising environmental impact.

We believe that clear communication and early insight into a building’s condition are essential. By investing time at the outset, we equip you with the clarity and confidence you need to make informed decisions, and support you throughout every stage of the project’s lifecycle.

How we work

  • Share with us your ideas, your goals, and any problems you’re hoping to resolve – and we can share with you our own ideas of what your project will involve. We’ll then follow up with a draft appointment to outline the project timeline and related fees.
Have a project in mind? Let’s chat.

  • Once the appointment has been agreed between us, we learn as much about the project and building as possible, and put together our action points based on the site context, the building itself and your needs.

  • This is where we get creative. We take everything we have learned and work closely with you to achieve your goals. Depending on your needs, this might look like a combination of option sketches, digital models or material palettes.

  • Once you’re happy with the sketch ideas, we draw up the design and prepare the necessary information to make the appropriate statutory applications. At this stage, you may want some cost advice from a Quantity Surveyor or help making grant or funding applications – we can help with this, too.

  • Once we have all the permissions in place, we prepare a set of drawings to engage with contractors, and can help you decide which one is best suited to make your vision a reality.

  • Seeing your ideas come to life is the most exciting part, but it can also be the most stressful. We’re here to lighten the load, managing projects on site and ensuring the quality of each proposal is carried through to the last detail.
