Project Background

Barony St Johns is a Category B listed Church in Ardrossan, listed with special historic interest due its Ecclesiastical use.

The building is rectangular in plan with gables to east and west and elaborate, projecting eastern tower and spire. It was originally designed by Black and Salmon Architects (Glasgow) in 1844 in the Gothic architectural style.

Client’s Brief and Our Approach

We were initially commissioned to carry out a fabric condition survey, which led to our appointment to develop proposals for the necessary fabric repairs. We provided a fabric survey prioritising repairs so that the client is able to take a staged approach to repairs when funds are available.

These included extensive stonework restoration, roof repairs, and redecoration to rehabilitate an extensive refurbishment of the building, The client wanted to address these issues to protect the building from further deterioration and as part of an extensive internal refurbishment to bring the building back into community use once again.
